Calp is once again among the municipalities most committed to urban greenery after receiving 3 Flowers of Honor at the program's gala Viles in Flor Comunitat Valenciana, held in Alberic, in the Ribera Alta region. The award recognizes the municipal work on sustainability, landscaping, and nature conservation in the municipality.
Driven by the ASFPLANT Foundation (Professional Association of Flowers, Plants and Horticultural Technology of the Valencian Community), Viles en Flor promotes the sustainable development through the maintenance of parks, gardens and urban trees, as well as through environmental education and neighborhood participation.
The gala and the evaluation criteria
In her eighth edition, a technical jury awards between 1 and 5 Flowers of Honor after reviewing the actions and plans of each municipality. Within this framework, Calp—also known as Calpe in Spanish—renews its triple distinction and consolidates its presence among the leading towns in green management.
The ceremony took place in Alberic (Ribera Alta), which highlighted green planning, a commitment to environmental education, and the conservation of the municipality's natural heritage, reinforcing a model that integrates landscaping, biodiversity, and citizen awareness.
Reasons for recognition
The jury highlighted Calp's efforts in the conservation of the environment and the management of landscaped public spaces. The municipality has 437.010 m² of green areas —which represents a ratio of 19,23 m² per inhabitant— and with 115 plant species recorded in the urban fabric.
In addition, the municipal area houses three endemic species botanicals of great interest: Silene ifacensis, Allium subvillosum y Teucrium buxifolium subsp. ifacensisAdded to this is the presence of unique enclaves such as the Peñon de Ifach Natural Park, Calp salt flats and several flora microreserves, pillars of a biodiversity that reinforces the ecological value of the municipality.
Local impact and institutional recognition
From the City Hall a was moved explicit gratitude to the technical team and municipal gardening staff for their daily work, as well as to the public for their constant collaboration. The award not only highlights what has been achieved, but also acts as a lever for new public policies regarding sustainability.
Municipal sources indicate that this triple flower confirms the green planning of the municipality and its focus on environmental education and natural conservation, areas that have been key to obtaining the jury's positive evaluation.
Upcoming challenges and roadmap
With the aim of continuing to improve, the council plans to incorporate irrigation and remote management technology to optimize consumption and maintenance, expand the surface area of ​​green areas and strengthen the ecological corridors that connect natural spaces.
