With preseason well underway and the new campaign just around the corner, local authorities and clubs are working to coordinate deadlines, budgets, and regulations to ensure the pitches are ready on time and in optimal condition for safety and performance. The situations in Seville, Moaña, L'Hospitalet, Torrijos, Girona, and Huelva paint a diverse picture, but with a common denominator: prioritizing the turf as a key element of the sporting experience and the maintenance of the facilities.
Renovations and works on football fields
In Seville, the Hytasa Sports Center has unveiled a state-of-the-art artificial turf football pitch for 11-a-side and 7-a-side football, covering approximately 6.890 m² and certified according to the FIFA Quality Programme . The installation includes an elastic base, 100% polyethylene carpeting with a combination of two fibers per stitch, and organic infill made from corn cobs —a biodegradable alternative to rubber, whose removal from European regulations is expected in the near future. The work at Hytasa includes new goalposts , repaired benches, and repainting of lines for 11-a-side and 7-a-side football, in accordance with RFEF regulations. The cost is around €260.000 , part of a larger package of projects undertaken by the IMD (Municipal Sports Institute) throughout the city, which has seen the installation of eight large artificial turf pitches and a total investment of nearly €2,3 million.

In Moaña, the replacement of the artificial turf on the two most centrally located seven-a-side football pitches has already begun : those of CEIP Reibón and CEIP Seara. The contractor, Limonta Sport Ibérica SL , has an estimated completion time of two months and started work over the weekend to minimize disruption. These surfaces were installed in 2008 and have not been maintained since, a long-standing request from clubs and schools . The investment totals €408.430,47 , funded by the Town Council, and follows the renovation carried out in 2024 at the O Casal pitch.
The municipality of Torrijos in Toledo is carrying out a complete replacement of the artificial turf at the San Francisco municipal stadium, fully funded by the Toledo Provincial Council . The new playing surface will comply with NIDE-2021 regulations and will improve playing conditions for more than 300 youth players from CD Torrijos and other users. The project includes perimeter protection turf , undergrounding of two sprinklers, and renovation of the changing rooms, stands, goals, and walls, with a six-week construction period to be completed in time for the 2025/26 season.
In L'Hospitalet, CE L'Hospitalet insists on the need to replace the artificial turf at the stadium due to accumulated wear and tear and the presence of patches that, according to the club, protrude between 1 and 1,5 cm. Meanwhile, the City Council has begun replacing 4.360 m² of turf at other municipal facilities (two outdoor courts at Les Planes, the Santa Eulàlia seven-a-side football pitch, and the Cruyff Court), with a budget of €164.614 and the same contractor, Fieldturf Poligras SA . Regarding the Hospi municipal stadium, the city council has clarified that the planned work is limited to an adjacent goalkeeper training area , not the 11-a-side pitch. Municipal sources confirm that an internal warranty process has been initiated with the company, while the company maintains that the turf, after seven years of use, complies with regulations and does not require complete replacement. With one year of warranty remaining, the club acknowledges that it will start the league season with a surface that could be improved and is in talks regarding the transfer of the stadium and a future transition to natural grass should the sporting project be successful.
