
The day has begun with a symbolic planting of around thirty pine trees on the land where the Princess Leonor Forest Parkin Alcobendas. The gesture marks the starting point of a large-scale renaturalization project on a former landfill that will create a natural corridor between Valdelatas and the Dehesa Boyal.

The scope of action is located in Valdelasfuentes and covers 263.880m², a key component of the so-called Habitats Hub. The project transforms a former landfill into a forested area with a metropolitan and educational focus.
For amphibians and other vertebrates, facilities will be made available eight micro-ponds with a combined approximate area of 1.750m²each with distinct hydrological features that favor varied life cycles.
The new park will reinforce the green corridor that links the Dehesa Boyal with the mountain of Valdelatas, expanding habitats and ecological connectivity in the north of the Madrid region.

Financing, surface area and services for the residents

The performance is supported by Biodiversity Foundation of the MITECO inside of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU. The investment amounts to 11,1 millones de euros, of which 3,6 million They come from European funds.
To integrate the park into its urban environment, the City Council will develop the Urban Facadea transitional space with pathways, seating areas, and access points. The project incorporates almost 6 kilometers of internal roads, including a accessible main axis of 2,7 km to facilitate walks and physical activity.
Among the facilities, the following stand out: sixth theme playground of the city, with some 700m² and inclusive areas for different ages, as well as swings and games designed also for older people.
The plan is completed with 54 urban gardens for social use and a restoration area and a cafeteria as a meeting point, in a location with Views of the Sierra de Guadarrama which enhances the landscape value of the whole.
Biodiversity, calendar and institutional dimension
