Port Garden in Castellón

The Port Garden takes a decisive step towards reintegrating into the daily life of El Grao. The Board of Directors of the Castellón Port Authority has validated an agreement with the Castellón City Council that enables the 20-year lease, with the option to extend for an additional decade, at zero cost to the council.

The council plans to act immediately on the most emblematic equipment of the site: the kiosk opening, closed for years, to accompany a program of civic and cultural activities. The garden is located in the port service area, next to Ferrandis Salvador and Serrano Lloberes avenues, and will 7.740m² at the service of the Grao neighborhood.

The agreement formalizes that the Ownership remains with the Port Authority, while the City Council assumes management and maintenance of the site. Its priority is planned as a green area open to the public, with space for cultural, civic, and social initiatives aimed at revitalizing the surrounding area.

From the presidency of PortCastelló, Rubén Ibáñez, it is emphasized that the measure reinforces the port-city institutional collaboration and helps connect the port area with the maritime district, supporting beautification and improvement projects in the Grao area.

The deputy mayor of Grao, Ester Giner, has expressed her satisfaction with the step taken and has emphasized that the transfer of use finally allows the kiosk to operate, a commitment made by Mayor Begoña Carrasco with the residents. The municipal official has argued that its implementation will boost the life of the park and the surrounding area.

After the necessary procedures, the objective is to convert that unique piece into citizen meeting point, with activities aimed at families and visitors, so that the garden recovers its role as a space for coexistence and a reference in the Grao.

Historically frequented by the residents of the neighborhood, the Jardín del Puerto is once again on the local agenda as an enclave for revitalize and energize the urban fabric of the seafront, in line with the strategy of integrating port life into the city.

The operation ensures that the site is consolidated as green and meeting area, with the City Council managing it for two decades, extendable, and PortCastelló retaining ownership. The reactivation of the kiosk and the programming of public uses mark the beginning of a new era for this emblematic space in the Grao.
