The lemon tree is a fruit tree that, although it produces fruits that cannot be consumed directly, they are very useful to sweeten some foods and drinks. In addition, it does not require much care and provides a pleasant shade, so it is very interesting to have a specimen in the garden. But how?
Well, you can buy the tree directly from the nursery, but I encourage you to go to an organic food store and get a few lemons. Why? Because it is very easy to multiply it. You just have to follow the steps that I indicate here, in this article about how to germinate lemon seeds.
What do you need to grow lemons?
To be able to get a lemon tree from a seed you need the following:
- Lemon seeds taken from fruits that have been grown following the principles of organic farming, or bought in a nursery.
- Seedbed: I recommend that it be a tray like the one you can see in the image above, but you can also use pots, milk containers, yogurt glasses ... Of course, it is important that regardless of which one you use, it has or can be made holes to drain and keep it clean.
- Watering can and sprayer with water: very necessary to moisten the earth.
- Substrate: it can be the universal one sold in nurseries.
- Copper or sulfur powder: to prevent the appearance of fungi, it is ideal.
- Labels: in them you will put the name of the plant and the sowing date.
What steps do you have to follow?
Now that you have everything, it is time to proceed to sow them whenever it is spring. How? Very easy:
- First, fill the seedbed with universal growing medium and water it.
- Second, clean the seeds well with water. In the event that there are remains of the lemon pulp, remove them with a scouring pad and a drop of dishwasher.
- Third, plant the seeds in the seedbed. Don't put them together. Ideally, they should be at a distance of 2cm from each other. If you are using a seedling tray, put a maximum of 2 in each socket.
- Fourth, sprinkle a little copper or sulfur, and cover them with a thin layer of substrate.
- Finally, insert the label and water again, this time with a sprayer.
Place the seedbed outside, in semi-shade, and keep the substrate always moist but not waterlogged. A) Yes, the seeds will germinate in 1-2 months.
